Amazon Kindle e-books now regularly outselling hardbacks

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Jul 20, 2010 5:39 am

While some may think that e-reader may be on the verge of becoming irrelevant, Amazon has come up with some numbers that keep them hopeful. Amazon is reporting that over the last three months, Kindle books have been outselling hardcover books at a growing rate.

Amazon stated that "over the past three months, for every 100 hardcover books Amazon.com has sold, it has sold 143 Kindle books. Over the past month, for every 100 hardcover books Amazon.com has sold, it has sold 180 Kindle books." With the huge price cuts, Kindle e-readers are seeing a boost in sales as well; tripling since the cut from $259 to $189.

While the Kindle book numbers can be inflated by the fact that they are sold across nearly every mobile and computer platform, the sales of actual Kindle devices could be good news for the e-reader fans out there. While hope many still hinge on the device becoming either more multifunctional or a lot cheaper, this is definitely a step in the right direction.
