Android market share worldwide growing at a staggering rate
While it's not exactly news that Android powered phones are taking a huge chunk out of the smartphone market worldwide, it's always interesting to see numbers on paper to back up the claims. Gartner's worldwide numbers show Android taking 17.8 percent of the market share compared to just 1.8 percent at this time last year.

This puts them in third place and nipping at the heels of Research in Motion, BlackBerry's parent company with both still well behind Nokia's Symbian. Also interesting is that Android was the only single OS to see its market share improve, although units sold were up around the board except for Windows Mobile. With WM on its way out to make room for Windows Phone 7, this isn't too big of a surprise.
