WiMax 2 standard dates coming into focus

While WiMax is still not the norm in a lot of places, the backers of the high speed wireless technology have big plans for the future. An industry group reported today that WiMax 2 will be set to be an industry standard by early next year if all goes well.

 

 

802.16m, the key wireless technology within WiMax 2, could be standardized as early as November by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and could get formal approval early next year. Device certification could come in late 2011. 802.16m delivers up to 120Mbps download speeds and lower latency that the original WiMax technology.
