Intel announces the Atom D425 and D525 for storage applications

By: (more) | Storage News | Posted: Aug 17, 2010 3:09 am

While Intel has been planning to move the Atom processors into the realm of "always on" devices since March, it has taken until now for them to get official. The Intel D425 and D525 have been announced by Intel for devices like the NAS and for RAID arrays.

Both processors are clocked at 1.8GHz, but the D525 is a dual-core processor while the D425 is only a single core. Both processors will support DDR3 SODIMMs and have been optimized for storage applications. They will also be paired up with a new I/O controller, called the 82801 IR I/O. Many high-end companies like LG, Netgear, and LaCie are already on board with the new processors.
