Verizon/Google tablet could see a Black Friday launch

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Aug 19, 2010 3:14 am

It looks like Black Friday news is already starting to leak out. This year's must have gadget? The HTC built tablet being worked on by Google and Verizon. The "busiest shopping day of the year" in the U.S. is the rumored launch date for the tablet.

This tablet will not be Android based; instead it will run a version of Chrome OS. This is surprising to some considering the popularity of the Android platform yet it would be a big way to launch the OS. Verizon and Google have remained expectedly silent on their plans, although it's possible that pricing could be as low as free with a data plan. Verizon has done this before with netbooks, so it's not completely out of line and would make this a pretty attractive competitor for the iPad if it has the power to do so.
