eFuse not stopping Droid X rooting and custom ROMs

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Aug 31, 2010 2:39 am

Motorola has tried their best to keep the Droid X from being accessible to custom ROMs, rooting, and other OS bypasses, but the hacking community is a pretty persistent lot and it seems that more and more backdoors are appearing all over.

The alternate firmware "Sapphire," originally designed for the first Droid, and Birdman's "FlyX" ROM are just a couple of the custom ROM's that have begun peeking out from the underground scene. Custom ROMs allow hardcore phone users to access alternative apps, install new versions of Android like Froyo, and even unlock functions like mobile hotspot usage for free. Check out the video of this Droid X booting into Sapphire.
