European mobile carriers possibly working on their own mobile OS

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Sep 17, 2010 10:36 pm

It seems that Orange, T-Mobile, and Vodafone, the three "big boys" when it comes to European mobile carriers, may be working together to put together their own phone OS that would cover phones over all of their networks. This OS would reportedly be a VERY distant offshoot of Android without the Google code.

According the the French newspaper "Le Figaro," "Stephane Richard, chief executive officer of France Telecom-Orange, has invited the heads of Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica and Vodafone to discuss the possible creation of a common platform for mobile devices. The talks, which are scheduled to take place October 8th in Paris, are motivated by a view that Apple's iOS and Google's Android operating systems have become a "Trojan horse" for these companies to establish their own relationships with mobile customers, reducing the significance of the operators in the value chain."
