Panasonic H-FT012 3D lens turns any G series camera into 3D shooter

By: (more) | Posted: Sep 21, 2010 4:04 pm

I mentioned just a bit ago that Panasonic had unveiled a new G series micro four-thirds camera today. Along with the unveiling of that new camera come some new lenses that are compatible with all Panasonic micro four-thirds cameras. The coolest of the new lenses is the the H-FT012 that lets the cameras shoot 3D images.

The lens puts two elements into one package to shoot right and left images simultaneously. The two images are then processed in software to turn them into a 3D image. Those 3D images can be viewed on Panasonic Viera TVs and 3D Blu-ray players. The lens has a 12.5mm/F12 focal range and is very compact for a 3D lens.

The best part about the lens is that Panasonic uses tech inside the lens that allows it to be able to shoot 3D images of moving subjects. Other lenses are unable to focus fast enough to get an image of a moving subject. Panasonic also unveiled a new 14mm/F2.5 lens and a vario 100-300mm/F4.0-5.6 lens with OIS. The 3D lens is $249.95, the 14mm lens is $399.95, and the Vario zoom lens is $599.95 with all shipping in November.
