Buffalo offers new Blu-ray drive with USB 3.0 connectivity

By: (more) | Peripherals News | Posted: Sep 22, 2010 6:02 pm

Buffalo makes all sorts of computer peripherals like external storage and optical drives. With the USB 3.0 port now becoming more common on many computers that are available, it makes sense that we would see more peripherals that use USB 3.0 coming to the market as well. Most of the USB 3.0 stuff so far has been external storage like HDDs. Buffalo has unveiled a new Blu-ray drive that uses the USB 3.0 port.

The faster connectivity offered by the USB 3.0 port does the same thing for the Blu-ray drive that it does for external HDDs with faster data transfers. The Buffalo USB 3.0 Blu-ray drive burns discs at 12x on single layer BDRs. The drive can also burn just about every other optical disc format as well including CD and DVD media.

In addition to supporting writing to Blu-ray media, the drive can also play normal Blu-ray films and supports 3D Blu-ray as well. The drive is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports so you can buy it now and upgrade your computer later. The drive is set to ship in the UK this month for £199.99 and includes software for writing media and playback.
