Blackberry "PlayBook" Tablet made official by RIM

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Sep 27, 2010 9:29 pm

RIM has finally put the BlackBerry tablet rumors to rest by unveiling the Playbook at the BlackBerry Developer's Conference in San Francisco this afternoon. The tablet is planned to hit the U.S. in "early 2011" while going international later in Q2.

Most of the rumors of specs were pretty much on point: 7" 1024 x 600 WSVGA screen, dual HD cameras (5mp rear facing, 3mp front facing) to incorporate video conferencing, HDMI and microHDMI outputs with full 1080p recording capability, and Wireless N and Bluetooth integration.

The Playbook will sport an all new BlackBerry Tablet OS which they state is "An OS Built for Developers," and have a 1ghz dual core processor under the hood. All of this in a tablet that weighs less than one pound. No pricing was released at this time. Here's the intro video shown at the BB DEVCON today:
