Android OS is numero uno among US phone buyers in the past 6 months

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Oct 6, 2010 4:33 am

Google can rest easy, Android is killing it in the US with recent sales.

In the six months leading up to August 2010 - 32% of US new phone buys had purchased a phone with Google's Android OS, which beats out RIM's 26% and Apple's 25%.

It's interesting - as Apple (to me at least) feels like it's talked about more, where Google has much more phones to sell because it can sell it's OS to multiple companies. I think the market will continue to reflect this unless Apple release something "truly magical" or perhaps, "extraordinary" or even something "new", instead of a slightly upgraded iPhone.

If it was something to truly change mobile phone's again like the original did - it could be enough to combat Google, as they're coming in very strong right now - to go from ~14% to 32% in an 8 month period cements this.

Also interesting is the total market share, Apple have not moved (even with the release of the 4th iPhone) where Google have increased by over 100%.
