Marvell and OLPC teaming up on tablet project for children worldwide

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Oct 7, 2010 12:39 am

Marvell has just made a hefty investment in the One Laptop Per Child(OLPC) program by giving the organization a $5.6 million dollar grant to develop an educational tablet device for children. This tablet will be the first in the next generation of OLPC's XO devices, set to debut next year.

The OLPC's tablet would be rolled out in two stages. The first rollout would be an Android based device aimed at children in developed countries, with a simpler, Linux based device for children in developing nations to soon follow. These tablets would of course be based around Marvell chips, with the design and reference work available to Marvell and their partners to push broader adoption.
