AT&T raises early smartphone upgrade fee from $75 to $200
Look out, AT&T fans; it looks like you're going to have to dig a little deeper in your pockets if you want to swap smartphones before your contract is up. Instead of tacking on $75 to the two year contract price of a new smartphone, now that hit to your wallet is going to be $200.

It's a pretty rough price to pay with new smartphones hitting the market seemingly every month or two, but it looks like AT&T is trying to do their best to recover money lost on discounted phones sold with new contracts. This new policy does not apply to the iPhone or to lower priced "regular" phones, and you may even be able to do some wheeling and dealing to get it cut down if you're a long time customer or don't have far to go in your contract.
