VIA P4X266E chips ready

By: (more) | Posted: May 23, 2002 3:57 am

It's back to The Inquirer, again. They have a story saying VIA have their P4X266E chipsets ready to roll, which will bring both 400MHz and 533MHz support to the Pentium 4 and new Celeron "Pentium 4" line of processors released last week by the chip giant. Intel appears to be insisting that people license the 533MHz front side bus, but it doesn't look like VIA will agree to Intel's licence - Can't you just see lawyers faces around the world grinning right now.

The company said that the P4X266E will support both the Pentium 4 and the latest 128-bit cache Pentium 4 "Celerons" that Intel introduced last week.

Sources at Via believe that no licence is necessary for the 533MHz front side bus, which is based on multipliers rather than core proprietary Intel technology.

More information at The Inquirer.
