Lensbaby debuts new Scout with fisheye lens for DSLRs

By: (more) | Posted: Oct 13, 2010 5:00 pm

One of the key features of high-end digital cameras whether it's a DSLR or a micro four-thirds camera is that they have manual settings and interchangeable lenses. Those interchangeable lenses are particularly important because they allow the user to use the lens that is best for any given situation rather than having to make do with the single lens that a point-and-shoot offers all the time. Lensbaby has been making aftermarket lenses for multiple DSLRs and other cameras for a while now and the company has just unveiled its latest product.

The new lens is called the Scout with Fisheye. The Scout section is the optic that holds the individual lenses Lensbaby offers. Many of the Lensbaby optics are adjustable to allow for artistic shots at odd angles. The Scout is a fixed optic that ships with the Fisheye lens. That lens has a 12mm focal length and can focus on objects as close as half an inch from the lens. The Fisheye also has a 160-degree angle of view.

Lensbaby says that using the Scout with Fisheye will give camera users with full frame sensors a black circle around almost all of the image. Shooters with cameras that have smaller APS sensors will see black in the corners of their images. The Scout is available for a wide range of DSLR and other cameras including Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sony, and Olympus four-thirds cams. The Scout is available right now for $249.95.
