Scholastic's Electronic Text Messengers: bringing texting to walkie talkies

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Oct 20, 2010 2:58 am

As if kids aren't getting texting-crazed early enough these days, a company called Scholastic has released the Electronic Text Messagers, a wireless device that is pretty much a texting walkie talkie that sends messages between the handsets instead of voice.

Sold in pairs for $16.99 on Amazon, these devices have a range of 600 feet and work through walls without having to worry about line of sight. You can even network 24 of these together to talk to each other. They only have a 40 character limit so they make tweets look like short stories, so extensive text speak is most likely required. Expect these to show up in classroom teacher's confiscated item drawers soon.
