Telstra has introduced a per megabyte charge model to their prepaid wireless offerings.

The prepaid wireless broadband battleground is getting more scarred as time goes on - Optus and Vodafone have recently increased the value to their plans, with Telstra now following through.

Telstra have introduced a plan which includes "up to" 10GB of data which is valid for twelve months. The plan costs $150 and is in direct competition with Vodafone who offer the same price and expiration period, but 12GB of data is included.

Telstra now charges usage recorded per session - not per download - the change brings them in line against the competition.

For example, if a prepaid user was to start a session to just their email, and that email consisted of 6 Kilobytes of data, and then logged out - they would be charged for a full 1MB of data. If the user was to check 20 emails, at say 120 Kilobytes total, then logged out - it would still be "charged" as 1MB of data.
