Android's Gingerbread update may be 2.3 instead of 3.0

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Oct 22, 2010 8:09 pm

For those of you who get hyped up about numbering systems, an Android engineer may have given you a little freak out today. While posting in the Android code forum, the engineer made reference to the next major Android build being version 2.3, not 3.0 like everyone has believed.

It's not like the jump from 2.2 to 2.3 can't be as large as the jump to 3.0, it's just an unwritten rule that generally the farther apart the version numbers are, the bigger and more groundbreaking the update will be. Whether Gingerbread will be version 2.3, 3.0, or 5,785.243 really doesn't matter as long as it continues moving the platform in the right direction.
