OCZ RevoDrive X2 SSD brings four Sandforce controllers to one PCI-E slot

By: (more) | Storage News | Posted: Oct 28, 2010 9:47 pm

It looks like OCZ is finding plenty of ways to keep that new Taiwan manufacturing plant plenty busy. OCZ is following up their already speedy RevoDrive PCI-E SSD solution, which hit the market not too long ago, with the RevoDrive X2.

On the surface, you wouldn't think things had changed much: PCI-E connection, between 100GB and 960GB of storage. Looking under the hood is where you get an idea of the improvements. OCZ has doubled the onboard SandForce-1200 controllers, going from two to four. Onboard RAID 0 gives this drive the ability to hit up to 740MB/s transfer speeds and up to 120,000 IOPS, which is quite an improvement over the 600MB/s speeds of the original RevoDrive. Prices have not been made available yet, but we're betting it's gonna be a pretty penny.
