Android rules mobile OS market; iPhone on top in total phone sales in U.S.

Canalys has released their numbers for the third quarter, and the numbers look awfully nice for those on the Android and iPhone fronts. Android, with a 1,309 percent jump in sales from this time last year, has taken the top spot for mobile OS sales while the iPhone holds the leads in phone sales with 26.2% of total market share.

With so many choices out there, it will be awfully hard for any one model to take out the iPhone as Apple puts all of their eggs in that one basket. Apple's jump over RIM, who held a 32 to 21.7 percent lead in the last quarter. Worldwide stats also have Apple jumping RIM at 17 percent to 15. It's gonna take a long time for anyone to catch up with Symbian's domination of the worldwide market, but the gap is closing as Symbian's total percentage dropped from 38 to 33 percent. It will be interesting to see what the release of Windows Phone 7 does to these numbers in a few months.
