Indilinx Martini - enjoys being shaken, not stirred

By: (more) | Storage News | Posted: Nov 16, 2010 11:57 pm

Anand and his merry men have an article regarding the new Indilinx Martini controller. You may remember them from (what seems) eons ago before the world of SSD's was invaded by the SandForce controller as the best value for money controller in SSD's in the market.

Well, today Indilinx are pushing themselves back into the market with their Martini controller which is in the latest OCZ Vertex Plus SSD.

The controller is technically still a Barefoot - but a new hardware revision. Martini is meant to refer to the firmware designed for the new revision of Barefoot (which unfortunately can't be flashed onto existing Barefoot drives). The new firmware is meant to work better with Intel's 34nm NAND - it is also designed to increase random write performance - but along with that, there are also other improvements.

Spare area has expanded - Martini has 10% compared to the old Barefoot with 7% on the NAND. Martini+Barefoot will allow a user to see 115.2GB of the drive compared to Barefoot's 119.2GB.

Apart from this little speel, hit up the source to see some more pics and read the rest of the article.
