AMD 28nm GPU's coming in second half of 2011

By: (more) | Video Cards News | Posted: Nov 17, 2010 11:00 am

Wanting to know what to buy for Christmas, next year? Well, wait no more - a 28nm based AMD Radeon GPU perhaps?

Supposedly - 28nm AMD chips will be hitting the shelves in 2H 2011, otherwise known as Southern Islands - TMSC is still needing to tape out 28nm (which it hasn't so far) and even if they did, production won't be ready until the second half of next year.

The 28nm manufacturing process is a big thing for GPU's as it allows companies to push even more transistors in, achieve higher clock speeds and get significantly more performance at the same, if not lower TDP's. Providing all goes well for TMSC, we should see 28nm GPU's by this time next year.

But - remember Globalfoundaries (owned by AMD) could also be working on 28nm - if they are, then it could be green faces of envy for NVIDIA.
