Qualcomm teases info about the new generation of Snapdragon

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Nov 19, 2010 5:13 am

Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors are still one of the top end pieces you can have in a mobile device, but as the new year approaches it's time to move on to bigger and better things. Qualcomm has started teasing the public about the next generation of the Snapdragon platform, and if their numbers are to be believed it's definitely something to look forward to.

Details from Qualcomm on their next project are pretty sexy: 28nm chips, dual core processors with a 5x improvement in speed, and a 75% decrease in power consumption. The new MSM8960 "System on a Chip" would also use the Adreno 3xx GPU which would offer a 4x improvement in 3D graphics power. This would give you a mobile device with the gaming power of a PS3 or Xbox 360 according to their illustrations. It will probably be 2012 before we see these in stores, but it's definitely something to look forward to.
