Jolibook not-a-netbook launches in UK

By: (more) | Laptops News | Posted: Nov 23, 2010 5:02 pm

Jolicloud says that its little Jolibook is not a netbook. That is despite the fact that it is sized like a netbook, has netbook hardware, and targets shoppers wanting a netbook with an alternative OS installed. We can all agree to just call the thing a netbook from now on. The only thing about the machine not exactly like your typical netbook is that the Jolibook runs the Jolicloud 1.1 OS.

Other than the special OS, that Jolicloud reckons turns the netbook into a "little computer" the rig has average netbook hardware. You get a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600; the CPU is an Atom N550 with dual cores. Graphics are via Intel GMA 3150, and the rig has 1GB of RAM.

Other features include a 250GB HDD, WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, three USB ports, and a memory card reader. The netbook has a VGA output and a 300K pixel webcam built-in. If you are in the UK and have a hankering for a new netbook, you can pick this thing up for £279.99, which works out to about $444 here in the States.
