Kingston outs new HyperX Max 3.0 external USB 3.0 HDD

By: (more) | Storage News | Posted: Nov 23, 2010 7:02 pm

We all know that a SSD is faster than a traditional HDD. Other than more speed, the SSD is also dead silent and uses less power, both of which are really nice in a notebook. With more and more machines getting USB 3.0 ports we are seeing the USB 3.0 peripheral market grow. Kingston has added a new external storage device to its line of USB 3.0 gear.

The external drive is called the HyperX Max External USB 3.0 drive and it has a SSD inside for better performance and no noise output. The drive will be offered in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB capacities. The combination of fast SSD data transfers and the speedy USB 3.0 interface means the drive can backup a full 10GB movie in 1 minute and 12 seconds.

The sequential read speed is up to 195MB/s and the sequential write is up to 160MB/s. It runs quietly, needs no drivers to operate, and gets all the power it needs from the USB port. The case is aluminum and the drive can withstand shock thanks to no moving parts of up to 1500G during operation. Kingston is withholding pricing on the drive at this point.
