Apple forces PhotoFast to end production of 256GB MacBook Air SSDs

Apple takes no prisoners when it comes to protecting its hardware and software chokehold for Mac products. The company has taken issue to all manner of firms that were outright cloning Mac computers down to companies that were simply using its cables in other products. The most recent company to come under the gun by Apple is PhotoFast.

PhotoFast offered up a cool upgrade kit offering a larger and faster SSD for the MacBook Air that debuted back in October. The product is short lived with Apple now forcing the company to stop making the SSD kit. The big rub for users of the MacBook Air is that the upgrade SSD for the machines PhotoFast offered was much faster than the factory SSD in the Air.

The factory storage device Apple uses has speeds of about 150MB/s. The PhotoFast SSD offered speeds of up to 250MB/s. PhotoFast was quick to pull the product off the market and company with Apple's demands. 9to5Mac reports that the likely reason PhotoFast complied so quickly was to keep things rosy with Apple since PhotoFast has a MFi license with Apple to make accessories for Apple gear.
