Winamp for Android comes out of beta today after a successful launch with over 500, 000 downloads. The official release lets you manage your music downloads on your Android, wireless syncing over WiFi with Winamp on your desktop and also Shoutcast radio stations.
AOL (the owners of Winamp) are not going to release a version of Winamp on iOS as it would seem impossible to beat iTunes right now. AOL/Winamp are happy to be singing at the Android camp and have said "Now with the Android OS beating out iOS, it is a foregone conclusion that it will beat out iOS over time," argues Kerry Trainor, senior vice president of AOL Entertainment.
There are of course other music management applications on Android such as doubleTwist and Songbird.
Winamp can allow a user to do one-click import of all non-DRMed music from iTunes. Winamp allows you to create playlists, search by song, artist or album and listen to Shoutcast Radio. Clicking on an album cover as you are listening and you get discography info, news and music reviews from AOL Music.
Winamp's WiFi syncing is also glorious - giving you the ability to sync music to your phone without any cables or hassle.
