Viacom sells Rock Band company Harmonix

By: (more) | Gaming News | Posted: Dec 24, 2010 5:04 pm

Any fan of music games will know the Harmonix name. This is the company that is behind the cool Rock Band franchise that has branched out from consoles and ended up on portable devices and more. You would think with the success of the Rock Band franchise Harmonix would be something that owner Viacom would want to keep a hold of.

You would be wrong. Viacom has announced that it has sold Harmonix off. Viacom has sold Harmonix to Harmonix-SBE Holdings LLC, which is an affiliate of Columbus Nova LLC. Columbus Nova LLS is an investment firm.

Harmonix apparently intends to continue supporting games it has on the market already. With MTV as part of the Viacom family, I wonder if the sale will affect the ability to get musicians to provide songs for the game.
