Nintendo 3DS - rewards you for fitness in the form of "Game Coins"

Nintendo sure like pushing that envelope of creativity and they've done it again! Nintendo's 3DS Coins is a step in the right direction for rewarding people for fitness.

Nintendo made a big splash with Wii Fit, it hit mainstream news pretty hard - it helped the overweight, the elderly, the people that would normally not want to walk around their neighbourhood doing fitness were now safe within the confines of their own houses, getting at least some fitness in.

Nintendo is turning this on it's head now, the Nintendo 3DS includes a built-in pedometer, the pedometer tracks how much you walk and records this data in it's Activity Log. The twist is Nintendo reward your 'score' with "Game Coins". Game Coins are used to unlock content in games - it works in the same way as Achievement Points, but you earn the coins from walking around in real life. These points can then be spent on new weapons, items or whatever the game would like to offer.

With this addition, Nintendo aren't just making fitness 'fun' or giving you a reward for it, they're also ensuring you take your 3DS with you everywhere.
