CES 2011, Las Vegas - Patriot is preparing their next generation SSD, Wildfire but didn't disclose if the new SATA 6G drive will be controlled by a SandForce or Marvell SSD. From what we learned at the show Marvell will have their next gen SSD controller ready a month or two before SandForce but the SandForce controller will be a little faster than the Marvell when it comes to all out performance. As you already know, higher sequential speed measured in ATTO doesn't tell the whole story so we will be following Wildfire closely to see who gets the design win.

Here we see Patriot's early 2011 SSD lineup. On the left is Wildfire, then the very fast SandForce SF-1200 controlled Inferno and finally the JMicron controlled budget SSD Torqx.

The hot topic in this group is Wildfire but we will have to wait a little longer to find out what is inside this next generation SSD.
