Trillian 5 released, is free for all who don't mind ads

By: (more) | Software News | Posted: May 11, 2011 2:45 am

The team over at Cerulean Studios has finally released Trillian 5, which intros a new interface, additional features and a fresh business model. Trillian 5 has endured a public beta that started last August and with the final release now out, we can see how things have changed since its last outing. A new resizable, ribbon-inspired interface which also includes Windows theme integration, new icons for services and cloud-based chat history.

Trillian 5 also includes social features including support for Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn integration as well as a Foursquare plugin with GPS support. Cerulean is now offering the old yearly subscription, with a free version of Trillian available with full functionality - the catch? Advertisements from Netflix and other companies. To disable the ads you'll have to subscripe to the full Pro service which will set you back $12 per year.

The Pro service lets you store your chats to the cloud, protecting your precious conversations and cyber (ahem) again hardware or other catastrophic failure.
