NVIDIA's upcoming quad-core Kal-El gets shown, where's the Fortress of Solitude?

COMPUTEX Taipei 2011: Another post, another green-labeled NVIDIA superhero post. NVIDIA have come out, ripped their shirt, buttons flew everywhere and underneath? Kal-El. Kal-El is NVIDIA's new quad-core chip that will allow (and an example of it is below) true dynamic lightning on mobile devices as well as some mighty fine physics calculations such as fully modeled cloth motion.

This goes against the trend of pre-staged, static lights that we see on current mobile games. NVIDIA's new Kal-El chip will be the start of some truly great things in the mobile industry like lightning that moves, fluctuates in intensity and responds realistically to the environment, best of all; in real-time.

NVIDIA showed off Kal-El on a Honeycomb-based tablet running 1280x800 with frame rates smooth the entire time. To show just how much power the graphics require, NVIDIA disabled two of the four cores for a moment and the frame rate dived down to less than 10fps. Impressive. NVIDIA state that the production chip will be between 25 to 30-percent faster than the one displayed today.
