LTE (or Long Term Evolution) wireless mobile speeds have been pushed faster than ever by Ericsson during a demonstration yesterday which tipped speeds of almost 1Gbps; around 10 times faster than today's current standard.

The demonstration was performed in the company's headquarters in Sweden in front of the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS). These super impressive speeds were accomplished using existing commercial hardware along with a test frequency provided by the PTS to allow certain features of LTE Advanced to be witnessed for the first time; one of which is carrier aggregation, which combines signals from multiple carriers to give higher overall bandwidth.

Ericsson is planning to launch LTE Advanced commercially in 2013, providing the required mobile frequencies can be allocated and the necessary equipment deployed to support the advanced features of this technology.

Ericsson encourages all regulators to allocate harmonized spectrum as early as possible," Ulf Ewaldsson, an Ericsson vice president, said in a statement. "The next step of LTE enhances the current service offering, performance, and data speed even further. It provides operators with the opportunity to capitalize further on their existing infrastructure.
