Twitter is seeing 200 million tweets per day
Just six months through 2011 and Twitter has smacked into another milestone; its users are tweeting 200 million times per day. Doesn't sound impressive? That's 1 million tweets per week. Rewind to 2009 and we were seeing 2 million tweets per day. Just a year ago? 65 million tweets.

If we put this into perspective, Twitter say this is equivalent to a 10 million page book in tweets, or 8,163 copies of Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace, each and every day! If you were to read this much text, it would take an astounding 31 years. Twitter also released the top Trending Topics for the first half of 2011:
AH1N1 - Swine Flu
Mubarak - former Egyptian President
Easter - Christian holiday
Cairo - capital of Egypt
#prayforjapan - sentiment following the March earthquake and tsunami
Chernobyl - site of nuclear disaster in 1986
Libia/Libya - site of an ongoing civil war
Fukushima - Japanese nuclear power plant
William & Kate - Newly-named Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge
Gadafi - Libyan political leader
