Angelbird soars to market with PCI-E based Wings SSD

By: (more) | Storage News | Posted: Sep 14, 2011 11:28 am

We first heard about this one roughly a year ago, but were quick to forget with the lack of any updates on its development phase, or even if it was still coming period. Turns out, yes, it was real, and it's finally been released. Say hello to Angelbird's PCI-Express based "Wings" SSD.

The Austrian company behind the Wings PCI-E x4 card provides one with the ability to add up to four 2.5-inch SSDs of their choosing to it with which RAID can then be set up. There is a lite version of the Wings which comes with no onboard storage, while Angelbird also sells two other models with 16 and 32GB built-in storage options. There is also room on the card for Angelbird's own Crest SSD cartridge, of which a 60GB one will set you back €115.43, while a 120GB unit comes in at €171.69.
