App of the Day: Apple iMessage (iOS)

By: (more) | Apps News | Posted: Oct 13, 2011 6:34 pm

Our App of the Day today is Apple iMessage for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad with iOS 5 or later.

Okay, our AOTD is a little different today. We're are featuring an Apple made "app" called iMessage.

It's the new messaging service built into iOS 5 and it rocks. Why? How about being able to send completely free text messages to other friends who are also using iOS 5.0? Yep, it does and you can also send pictures and video, too. It's fast too and works very well.

The annoying part is that your friend or contact needs to have iOS 5.0 and there is really no way of knowing if they are on iOS 5.0 or not without asking them or just trying for a response. I'd love to see Apple make some adjustments so in your contacts list a person with iMessage support was highlighted with a support icon or something similar.

Do you reckon the folks over at WhatsApp Messenger are a little nervous right now? I'd say so... they did make their app free for 24 hours to regions that usually need to pay this past day. Apple iMessage is not perfect yet and not up to what WhatsApp can do (sharing your location, for example), but I'm sure we'll see improvements over time.

Now you can send text messages from iPod touch to any other iOS 5 device over Wi-Fi. Text a little. Text a lot. Text as much as your thumbs can handle. It's unlimited. And it's free.
