2 x Dual Athlon Motherboard Reviews @ AthlonXP

By: (more) | Motherboards News | Posted: Aug 20, 2002 5:30 am

AthlonXP has just released two reviews on dual Athlon motherboards.

The first is on the Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW.

We are going to first setup the system as a single drive system. Installation of Windows 2000 Professional and the necessary platform, peripheral drivers and associated updates was smooth and painless. With the system up and running we headed into the installation of Unreal Tournament. Mini-Bite has become my official system pre-test tester. With the game installed and updated she setup for several hours of gaming. The system performed flawlessly and it is time to really push this thing to the edge. Running two separate instances of Folding while looping the Unreal Tournament entry movie the system was left to run overnight. The next morning the GA-7DPXDW was folding away and the Unreal Tournament entry movie was looping away. With the stability test out of the way it was time to start our first round of benchmarking.

While the second is on the Iwill MPX2

The stability of the Iwill platform has been outstanding. Even when pushed by hours of gaming, Image editing and normal everyday usage the MPX2 was rock solid. At this point it is time to turn our focus toward what has become the test bed for the hardware enthusiasts of the Dual AMD platforms. Wondering what I am talking about? Overclocking!!! Iwill has been kind enough to include in the Bios the ability to up the FSB in one Mhz increments. Having made a quick trip into the Bios we start with a run at 140MHZ FSB. After several rounds of UT and a few benchmarks the platform looks to be solid. So this calls for another trip into the Bios and we head for what has been the upper limit with the Dual AMD platforms we have tested so far. Setting the FSB to 145Mhz we ran another round of stability testing. The MPX2 again passes the stability with flying colors.
