Diablo entered our hearts, minds, souls and mice, 15 years ago today
15 years. Fifteen years. It has been that long since Blizzard's crazy click-your-mouse-until-your-finger-drops-off Diablo came out and has since then, turned into one of the most successful PC franchises, ever.
It was originally released on December 31, 1996, when I was just 13 years old and turns 15 today. Blizzard seem to be going on this celebration of 15 years with, well, nothing at all. You'd think with Diablo III to be [hopefully] released this year, there'd be more fan fare.
Diablo was the creation of Dave Brevik and Max and Eric Schaefer whilst they worked at Blizzard North. All three of them resigned in mid-2003 under interesting circumstances and went on to found Flagship Studios. From there, we had Hellgate: London which was the only game released and after that Max and Eric started Runic Games and released Torchlight.
How many mouse clicks do you think you've clicked in Diablo? Thousands? Hundreds of thousands? Millions? BILLIONS?
