Acer and Lenovo, two first-tier PC vendors, are set to launch tablet PCs that will rock Microsoft's upcoming OS, Windows 8 as well as Intel's upcoming Clover Trail platform. They're expected in Q3 2012, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

Intel is set to unveil their Medfield processor, which is specifically designed for Android-based devices in second quarter of this year. ARM-based processors are set to combat Medfield in terms of performance and power saving, so PC players are putting more bets on Intel's Clover Trail platform as the lead, the sources said.

Wintel-based tablet PCs are said to have a strong potential in the enterprise market, where users still require Microsoft-developed applications that they are familiar with, and are rolled out in their offices, departments, etc. Android and iOS still can't penetrate these markets.

Shipments of the iPad accounted for 60-percent of the current tablet PC market in 2011, with an expected 50-percent on-year shipment growth, Apple is expected to maintain its share of around 60-percent in 2012.
