Samsung Exynos 5250 samples, Q2 2012 mass production, could this power the Galaxy S III?

Samsung may have delayed the announcement of their upcoming Galaxy S III handset, but the excitement didn't stop, fortunately. Samsung took a minute between their earnings call to discuss their upcoming Exynos 5250.

Samsung's Exynos 5250 is a System-on-a-Chip (SoC) and is currently sampling with manufacturers and is set to go into mass production in Q2 of this year. Exynos 5250 sports two Cortex-A15 cores running at 2.0GHz. This will reportedly give us a 100-percent improvement in performance over the current Cortex-A9 chip.

GPU-wise, Samsung have only said that it will quadruple the graphics performance of their current models, and Samsung also said that the Exynos 5250 will power tablets first, with no timeframe for smartphones. Could we see a Galaxy Tab powered by the new Exynos 5250? Then the chip could slide into the Galaxy S III.

It'll be interesting to see how this faster dual-core will fare against quad-core chips in the market already such as ASUS' Transformer Prime.
