Dropbox for Android gets updated, now includes the ability to auto-sync photos and videos

By: (more) | Software News | Posted: Feb 27, 2012 3:33 am

Dropbox just updated their Android application, and have baked in some new cool features. Dropbox is now capable of automatically uploading your devices photos and videos in the background, over your choice of just Wi-Fi only, or Wi-Fi and mobile connectivity.

What is a bonus, is it keeps your original resolution, and the quality of the photo untouched. Similar functions on Google+ for example reduce the resolution of photos any wider than 2,048 pixels. This is a great feature, considering phones like Samsung's Galaxy S II sport 8-megapixel cameras.

Dropbox have also updated the Windows and Mac versions of their program, and now includes the ability to automatically upload from virtually every camera, smartphone, tablet or SD card that is directly connected to your machine. Just plug the device in and auto-sync takes control and does its thing. Now that's some seriously cool magic from Dropbox.

Also, Dropbox included just one last, small thing: Dropbox have prevented the means to install the app onto an Android devices SD card in efforts to retain "more secure credential storage".
