Intel demoed 4.7GHz Pentium 4 at IDF

By: (more) | Posted: Sep 26, 2002 5:52 pm

Silicon Strategies have a few paragraphs up telling us how Intel's president, Paul Otellini, demonstrated a 4.7GHz Pentium 4 processor back at IDF on the 9th of this month. They neglected to say if it was operating or not - but we will presume so. Additionally, a Pentium 4 processor operating at 3GHz was demonstrated, saying it would be available this year with Hyper-Threading technology. The 3GHz barrier isn't all that exciting anymore, hardcore overclockers around the world are already hitting 3.2GHz and higher from current Intel chips. Go two or three years back though, 3GHz would have been laughable.

HT Technology was previously only available for enterprise-based servers. HT Technology allows a multithreaded software program to run as though it has two processors.
