Google have done something quite smart, although just a tad ironic. On Thursday, the Mountain View-based company ran a print ad through Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper for search advertising business. The ad reads (and shown in the picture below):
"You know who needs a haircut? People searching for a haircut. Maybe that's why ads on Google work." Media reporter Steve Ladurantaye tweeted the ad, adding "An ad for Google ads in today's Globe demonstrates the value of print ads, yes?"
The ad from Google ran in both the Globe's print, and digital editions, as well as the Globe's main competitor the National Post. So, Google isn't just supporting newspapers, they're pushing for their own ads. And these days, if you're looking for a haircut, you're not going to go out and buy (or get it delivered) the local newspaper. You're going to pull out your smart device, or Google it. Plain and simple.
