Our day of National Remembrance

By: (more) | Posted: Oct 20, 2002 2:22 pm

As our readers and colleagues on the other side of the world begin to wake to meet a new day, Australians remember those who were killed in the tragic Bali bombings last week which claimed so many Australian lives - on this, our day of National Remembrance. An unknown terrorist group planted two bombs in a popular night club area packed full of young tourists from all over the world.

One thing which stood out boldly for me was when one of the victims said several years ago he told people that he felt safe in Australia since we were so far away from the rest of the world. Sadly now we have to be prepared for anything, like any other country in the free world - Our freedom has been partly stripped, with worry put into the minds of many.

It's sad to think this is not going to be the last attack on innocent people. I personally hope governments and agencies around the world will be able to control these terrorists and stop their dreadful attacks which now seem to be all too regular. It is clear though that it is going to be a difficult, long and tough task.

Many victims are still fighting for their lives in hospitals around Australia with horrible burns. So, on behalf of the entire TweakTown Team we express our best wishes to all injured and families who have lost loved ones.
