RumorTT: Ad-supported Kindle 2 to be on offer

By: (more) | Mobile Devices, Tablets & Phones News | Posted: Sep 3, 2012 6:32 am

The latest bunch of words to hit the pages of the Internet are pointing toward retail giant Amazon offering two versions of their upcoming next-generation Kindle Fire tablet.

The first would be an ad-supported Kindle Fire 2, with the other one to not sport ads. This would then make the consumer ask themselves before purchasing, 'would I like to see ads on my Kindle Fire 2, if it meant it was cheaper?'

This move would see the ad-supported Fire 2 show a consumer an ad whenever the tablet is turned on, or is woken up. This would save consumers roughly $30-$50 on the tablet itself, and if you're not the ad liking type of person (like myself), you can opt for the more expensive, ad-less Kindle Fire 2.

We already have the $199 Nexus 7 from Google and ASUS, so how much cheaper are we talking for an ad-supported Kindle Fire 2? $139? $149? This could either work very well for Amazon, for those wanting a cheaper ad-supported tablet, or very bad for the company and sales will tank. The next-gen Kindle Fire should be unveiled at Amazon's September 6 event, where we should know for sure what is going on.
