Nokia's new Lumias feature new touchscreen technology

By: (more) | Mobile Devices, Tablets & Phones News | Posted: Sep 5, 2012 6:32 pm

At Nokia's press conference today, the Lumia 920 and 820 were officially announced and detailed. Included in those details was a description of a new touchscreen technology developed by Touchpad maker Synaptics. The important take away from this new technology is that it supports both gloves and fingernails.

No longer will you have to decide between having warm hands or responding to that text message. The new feature is called Super Sensitive Touch and is based upon Synaptics' ClearPad Series 3. Both of the new Lumias, the 920 and 820, will receive this feature which is also capable of tracking up to ten distinct fingers.

"With Synaptics' continuous innovation on touch, we are able to pioneer new technologies that improve smartphone user experience," said Kevin Shields, senior vice president, Smart Devices, Nokia. "Nokia has been a leader in display technology, and we are setting a new standard with Super Sensitive Touch technology on the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820."

The 920 is also using a new display technology that Nokia is calling PureMotion HD+. It reportedly increases the resolution beyond that of standard HD and makes viewing the screen in bright sunlight easier.
