It's widely rumored, and to a degree confirmed, that the iPhone 5 will be launched next Wednesday, September 12 in San Francisco at an Apple press conference. It's also widely rumored that the iPhone 5 will be available for purchase, and start shipping pre-orders, on September 21, just 9 days after the event.

Well, now MacRumors is reporting more evidence to point to this fact. First, TechCruch reported that Verizon had put a "vacation blackout for September 21 to September 30, indicating that would be the release date for the new iPhone 5." Now MacRumors is saying that FedEx classes are being moved from September 21-24 because of a "surge event."

This "surge event" is almost undoubtedly the next gen iPhone that they are talking about, and they want to make sure they have everyone they need to get the devices to customers on the day it becomes available. So, while all of this is still a rumor, the evidence is starting to stack up pretty heavily and I would be surprised if it was all wrong at this point.
