TFT to Pass CRT Monitor Production in 2004
South Korea based Samsung Electronics plans to open a 100,000 sq. meter factory in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, China. The electronics giant expects the fatory to produce 160,000 TFT (Thin Film Transistor) LCD modules per month when it opens in the second half of 2003. Maybe now the prices will come down to a competetive rate, or at least one that won't clean out the pocketbook!
The TFT market finally appears to be reaching critical mass, following several years of heavy investment by Far Eastern manufacturers. Earlier this week research firm Displaysearch predicted that revenues from LCD screens would outstrip CRT revenues this year, and that LCD unit volumes would move past CRT volumes in 2004.More information @ The Register
