An analyst is suggesting that the iPad mini may spell the end of the iPad 2. The iPad mini is likely to feature many of the same specifications as the iPad 2, such as its resolution of 1024x768, and may even come with a better processor and RAM, all the while coming in with a cheaper price tag.

Apple has a habit of keeping the old model around, at least with the iPhone, so that they can have devices at varying price points. They did this with the iPad 2 when the new iPad came out. The current $399 price for the iPad 2 is well above the rumored $249-299 price tag that is expected to ship with the iPad mini.

Rob Cihra, an analyst at Evercore Partners, expects Apple to reduce its offerings and stream line its product line up. Apple has traditionally kept a slim line up so as to keep confusion to a minimum. This is why there are very few models of MacBook Pros, iPhones, and iPads. What are your thoughts?
