Hardware Accelerated Interviews nVidia's David Kirk

By: (more) | Posted: Nov 12, 2002 7:46 pm

Hardware Accelerated has posted an extensive interview they recently had with nVidia's chief scientist and VP of architecture, David Kirk. The article gives readers some insight of things to come (hint: NV30), and their new CG language for API's such as OpenGL. Head on over to check it out!

The nForce2 was recently announced, what kind of feedback has this seen? Serial ATA was not included however, is there a reason for this?

NVIDIA is evaluating SerialATA as a feature for our next-generation products, however, the saturation point for SerialATA devices is not high enough for inclusion at this time. There is no point of burdening consumers with a cost for a feature they probably won't take advantage of.

Do you see movie studios moving towards using GPU's in render farms to render animated movies faster and cheaper than currently? When do you think this will be possible and what needs to be done first?

I think that we've already demonstrated how close real-time graphics has come to film-quality animation in movies. More than a year ago, we worked with Square Studios to demonstrate a real-time rendered version of a scene from the Final Fantasy movie. Although the real-time version was not exactly the same resolution and quality as the movie, it was stunningly close. And, that was with a GeForce3!
